Read my latest longform piece, on exploring public space, ownership and authority through grassroots restoration efforts at New Orleans’ long-neglected but never-abandoned Black beach.
In my time as a staff writer and editor for newspapers and a frequent contributor to other publications, I have written hundreds of stories. Currently I teach journalism at Tulane University and take commercial work on a limited basis.
Want to read the most impactful story I’ve ever written?
What about the (apparently!) most controversial piece, resulting in dozens of livid phone calls and emails and over 100 (now scrubbed from the web) angry comments? Here’s a piece that was really fun to report (tbh, there have been so many). Interested in one of my many nods to Susan Orlean? What about the most amazing place journalism has taken me? And I’m particularly proud of this longform piece on the segregated proms at a public Georgia high school—held not in 1960 but in 2009.
